Columbus CI Release Outcomes

Someone leaving Columbus Correctional Institution may transfer elsewhere within the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, enter the community under post-release supervision, receive parole in an eligible older case, or discharge when the sentence and any required supervision end. These outcomes are not interchangeable. A movement to another prison ends the person's stay at Columbus CI but continues NCDAC custody. An inactive prison status can coexist with active supervision after a physical release.

Local history helps distinguish the release trail. NCDAC describes Columbus Correctional Institution as a male medium-custody prison with an official capacity of 780. If a record uses expiration, parole-related language, or another release type, retain that exact term and explain it in context instead of replacing it with a broader conclusion.
