Tabor Institution Release Destinations

A person may leave Tabor Correctional Institution for another NCDAC prison, for the community under post-release supervision, through parole in an eligible older case, or at sentence discharge. The community destination is not always public. The record's role is to show what happened to state custody, not to publish a private residence. A move from Tabor to Columbus Correctional Institution or another prison is continuing custody.

Modern Structured Sentencing cases commonly include a prison portion followed by post-release supervision. Parole is a different conditional release process that still applies in some older eligible cases. Final discharge occurs only when the governing custodial and supervisory obligations end. This is why Inmate Status and Probation/Parole/Post Release Status must be read separately. Inactive inmate status may confirm that a prison bed was left while active supervision shows that NCDAC involvement continues.

Confirm Tabor Institution Releases

The correct online source is NCDAC Offender Public Information. It follows people through the statewide corrections system and can retain historical incarceration periods. The Columbus County jail roster does not cover Tabor. Search by offender number when possible. If using a name, select the committed name and compare identifying details before opening the offender-number link.

1. Search the NCDAC offender number or committed first and last name, using narrowing fields when needed.
2. Open the matched detail record and compare Inmate Status with Probation/Parole/Post Release Status.
3. Read the most recent incarceration summary, current or previous location, Last Movement, and Last Movement Date.
4. Review sentence and incarceration-period links to isolate the Tabor episode from earlier or later state terms.
5. Confirm a past release with Actual Release Date, Release Type, Release Location, and the related status fields.

Projected Release Date is the system's forecast. It can change as lawful sentence calculations, credit, earned time, forfeitures, court changes, disciplinary action, or consecutive terms are applied. It does not prove that the person left on that date. An actual terminating movement and date carry more weight.

Note: A Tabor location in an older incarceration period does not prove that the most recent state term ended there.

Tabor Release Search Boundaries

NCDAC also offers a monthly Inmate Releases search using county, year, and month or a surname query. Columbus is available as county code 24. That county field refers to the destination county reported for release. It does not mean the person was released by Tabor Correctional Institution, or even confined in Columbus County before release.

Use that tool for discovery, then open the person-level offender history. Its result columns can include offender number, name, Release Date, primary offense, and Type of Release. Match the offender number before connecting a row to a Tabor incarceration period. A county destination list and a facility departure list answer different questions.

NC SAVAN provides a notification channel for participating state custody and supervision changes. It can help with a future event, but it is not the full historical archive. The Commission's monthly reports apply to discretionary parole reviews in eligible cases. They are not a modern structured-sentence release calendar.

Tabor Institution Records and Contact

Use the official NCDAC facility page for the current prison phone, visitation process, custody configuration, and leadership. Those details can change. The research verified the institution's address, but it did not supply a stable phone number. Facility staff handle institution-specific matters; a historical release-record request belongs with NCDAC public records.

When the online detail is unclear, follow the NCDAC public-records process. Supply the full name, offender number, Tabor facility name, date range, and exact admission, sentence, movement, or release facts requested. NCDAC says basic conviction, time served, sentence length, admission dates, and release dates may be public. Most other offender-file material is confidential.

Electronic copies are normally provided when suitable. A simple request may take days, while a complex or redacted response can take weeks or months. NCDAC does not need to create a new compilation. No flat fee was promised for one basic release record, so ask for an estimate before costs are incurred.

Tabor History Shapes Release Records

The county's two state prisons must be distinguished from its detention center. Tabor Correctional Institution opened in 2008 as a large close and medium custody complex. Its later configuration includes close and minimum custody. During a January 2025 accreditation review, NCDAC reported about 1,300 incarcerated men at the institution. Columbus Correctional Institution, by contrast, has an original dormitory dating to the late 1930s and an official capacity of 780.

The scale and history are useful identifiers, but neither changes jurisdiction. Every Tabor admission, transfer, release, and supervision event remains part of the statewide record. Do not substitute the Sheriff custody reports just because Tabor City lies in Columbus County.

Which Columbus Release System Applies

A county-specific source of error is the shared place name. “Columbus” can refer to Columbus County, its detention center, or Columbus Correctional Institution. Tabor has a different name but is located within the same county. A broad search for a Columbus County inmate can therefore return a Sheriff jail episode, a Columbus CI state-prison term, or a Tabor state-prison term.

Start with the operator, address, and identifier. A Sheriff booking number belongs to the county jail. An NCDAC offender number follows the person through state facilities. A case number explains the court action but does not replace the custody record. The Columbus Correctional Institution discharge page preserves the separate facts for that Whiteville prison.

Note: Similar local names do not merge Sheriff booking records with NCDAC incarceration and release histories.

Tabor Post-Release Supervision Records

A physical release from Tabor may lead to NCDAC Community Supervision. The prison is not the field supervision office, and the Columbus County Sheriff's Office does not supervise a former state prisoner. If the offender record shows active post-release, parole, or probation status, use the official Community Supervision directory to locate the responsible office. The NCDAC Columbus County resource directory is an additional local state-agency reference.

The published directory groups Columbus with Bladen and Brunswick in Judicial District 13 and lists a district office at 324 Village Road, Unit G, Leland, NC 28451, 910-755-3418. Since assignments may change, confirm the entry before travel. The Sheriff's contact directory separately lists a local Adult Probation number of 910-642-6531 without an address, office hours, or check-in policy. These contacts help locate an office. They do not open confidential case notes.

Completion of prison custody and completion of supervision are separate events. Preserve the exact status language. A parole begin or end date describes conditional supervision, while Actual Release Date describes the incarceration event. Only a source showing that both relevant obligations ended should support the phrase “fully discharged.”

Resolve Tabor Release Conflicts

Records can differ because they measure different moments. NCDAC tracks incarceration and supervision. NC SAVAN sends participating custody-event notices. A court judgment sets legal terms. A facility movement shows where custody shifted. If the entries conflict, preserve the offender number, URL, fields shown, and the date the record was viewed. Then compare sentence history with the judgment through the Columbus County court access point before asking NCDAC to correct a field.

An inactive inmate status with active supervision is usually not contradictory. It can reflect a valid community release followed by supervision. A new current prison location after Tabor means a transfer. A past projected date without an actual terminating movement is not enough. Quote Release Type exactly rather than recasting it as “freed.”
